3. The first open heart surgery in the western hemisphere was performed in 1902 by Dr. Luther Leonidas Hill.

4.  Baseball legend Henry Louis "Hank" Aaron was  born in Mobile in 1934.

5. Montgomery is both the birthplace and capital of the Confederate States of America.
